Course Profile: Young People and Mental Health (1 Day)
Workers can often feel under-confident in dealing with mental health issues. Mental health difficulties however are common amongst young people and at such a crucial time in their development it is important to be able to respond appropriately. This course aims to increase understanding of mental health in young people and give insight into the experience from the young person’s perspective. It aims to provide workers with strategies for responding appropriately to young people who are experiencing mental health difficulties as well as consider how to promote mental wellbeing in their work with young people. The course is informed by the DSM (V) and material from NIMH, SANE, RCP, MHF, NICE & New Horizons (2010).

  • The statutory and legal frameworks in relation to young people and mental health problems
  • How to use some practical strategies for helping young people
  • How to respond when dealing with young people with mental health difficulties
