Course Profile: Office Health & Safety (1 Day)
Current legislation requires that staff to be aware and conversant with Health & Safety duties and responsibilities. This course affords the opportunity to have the subject explored in an interesting and unusually lively fashion.

The course is informed by Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, The Management of Health & Safety Regulations 1999, The Display Screen Equipment Regulations 1992, The Health & Safety (workplace) Regulations 1992, The Health & Safety (workplace) Regulations 1992, The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and the organisation’s Health & Safety Policy.
The course is designed for any member of staff who works primarily in an office based setting.
Learning outcomes

By the end of the course learners should understand:

• Their role and responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
• The requirement to do Risk Assessment under The Management of Health & Safety Regulations 1999
• Related European Directives:
             - The display screen equipment regulations 1992
             - The Health & Safety (workplace) Regulations 1992
             - The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
• The key elements of the organisation’s Health & Safety Policy
• Common health hazards associated when working with computers
• Strategies for the prevention of:
             - headache
             - eye strain
             - Repetitive Strain Disorders
• Environmental hazards in their workplace
• How to prevent slips, trips and falls
• The minimum standards for the work environment
• How to work in a safe way
• The principles of good Moving and Handling
• How to examine the work environment to identify unsafe conditions
• Strategies for resolving these situations
Training methods utilised include Tutor Presentation, PowerPoint, Quiz, Handouts, Discussion in small and larger groups
